International Olympic Committee President
Thomas Bach finished a week-long tour of the United States by meeting
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon in New York.
President Bach updated the UN Secretary-General about
the implementation of Olympic Agenda 2020. After its unanimous approval
in December, work has already begun on implementing a number of reform
measures, including changes to the bidding process and a proposed
Olympic Channel.
The pair also discussed the UN Sustainable Development Goals. President Bach invited the Secretary-General to run with the Olympic torch in Rio.
Earlier in the day, the President met IOC Honour Member and former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. The pair discussed the global outlook. The President invited Mr Kissinger to visit the IOC headquarters and The Olympic Museum in Lausanne.
Wednesday’s meetings concluded a week-long visit to the United States. The week started with a meeting with former US President Bill Clinton to discuss global issues and the possibility of closer cooperation between the IOC and the Clinton Foundation.
Later in the week, President Bach was welcomed at the headquarters of the United States Olympic Committee in Colorado Springs, where he visited a new training and medical facility and met athletes. During the visit, he also met the leader of the Boston Olympic bid for the 2024 Olympic Games.
IOC President Thomas Bach also attended the opening ceremony of the FIS World Ski Championships, alongside the organisers and skiing legends past and present.
IOC members Anita DeFrantz and Angela Ruggiero were also there, as well as USOC CEO Scott Blackmun.
On the opening day of competition on Tuesday, the President was able to see the Women's Super G competition.
The President was also a guest at the 49th Super Bowl in Phoenix, Arizona, where he met a number of TOP sponsors, representatives of the host broadcaster NBC, as well as NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
